Earlier this week I mentioned that I had some exciting news to share. The news to report is that June 5-10, 2018, I will be partnering with Capture Integration to host a photography workshop in The Palouse, Washington. Capture Integration is one of the exclusive U.S. distributors for Phase One and Cambo photography equipment.
Prepare for a workshop like no other paired with the first class CI Experience! Join us as we explore this picture-perfect destination of the Palouse, offering spectacular panoramic views, 100+ year old barns, macro opportunities of flowers, vintage cars and more. Your full complement of equipment, from extreme wide angle to super telephoto will all be exercised during this adventure. Capture Integration will also have some of their latest equipment available for you to try out and use. How would you like to shoot with the latest 100MP digital back and Phase One XF or Cambo technical cameras while photographing Palouse Falls!! Depending on the weather and light conditions, the time allotted to the workshop will also allow for some locations to be visited more than once so that new photographic interpretations can be tried.
What is the Palouse?
The Palouse, located in Southeastern Washington State and neighboring Idaho, has been referred to as America’s Tuscany. In the spring, the rolling hills of canola, wheat, and blooming wildflowers provide a rainbow of colors. During the early morning and late day light, the lines, textures and patterns formed by the tens of thousands of acres of farmland leave you with an amazing canvas to work with.
But wait, there’s more… Scattered throughout the Palouse are 100+ year-old barns and towns stuck in a time resembling the early 20th century. Old cars, trucks, grain elevators and farm equipment are scattered about and await your creativity. Wind farms dot the landscape and are great visual tools. The peak of Steptoe Butte offers wide views of the valley below. And, a short drive to the western part of the area leads to Palouse Falls, a dramatic 200+ foot canyon which connects to the Snake and Columbia Rivers.

Event Agenda :
Detailed Agenda Coming Soon!
It is currently anticipated that that we will meet at the hotel at approximately 1PM on June 5th. We will have a meet and greet which will be followed by my short video slideshow intro to the Palouse. We’ll then be off for our first sunset shoot. While more details will be forthcoming as we get closer to the workshop, the short and sweet overview is that we will be having long and productive days! We will be out well before dawn to capture beautiful wildflowers and sunrises from Steptoe Butte and other select locations. After sunrise, we will explore the back roads of Palouse farmland, finding old barns, farm equipment and wildlife. Mid to late morning we will generally return to the hotel for breakfast, a short break where you can catch some rest, or we will conduct image critiques and discuss processing of images. Mid-afternoon will find us back out exploring the back roads as the fading light offers up the lines, textures, and patterns of the rolling landscape. We will generally catch an “early” dinner and then head out for our sunset shoot. There will also be old bridges and “ghost” towns to explore and photograph. One evening we will drive to Palouse Falls for a sunset shoot. One morning, we will also travel to Sprague, WA where we will be able to photograph “vintage” cars and trucks.
